Island Companies winner is smiling

He turned the key, the engine started and fireworks went off.

Island Companies Ltd. gave away a cherry-red Mini Cooper on Saturday to one lucky Caymanian shopper.

Contest winner Rafael B. Elias said his girlfriend will be the first one to get a ride in his new stylish automobile.

“I feel amazing. Thank you guys so much, Island Companies. You’re so generous,” he said.

Elias is from George Town and visited an Island Companies store while doing some Christmas shopping last month for his girlfriend.

Elias was one of 10 finalists who were entered into the competition for simply shopping at an Island Companies store in the past few months. Each person received an Island Companies shopping bag with a key to the Mini Cooper, and were asked to put the key in the car and press the ignition button. Only one key was the correct one, and after six failed attempts, Elias’ key was the one that fit.

“Today is a big day for us, for our customers, but also for our staff that has worked hard on this promotion,” said Alexandre Tabacoff, CEO of Island Companies Ltd.

Another nine participants who entered the contest giveaway won designer watches sold at Island Company stores.

“I want to say a big thank you to all of you who shop with us,” said Renard Moxam, managing director of Island Companies Ltd. “Don’t hide your credit card in 2011. Keep coming with those.”

It was all smiles from the big winner, and the crowd congratulated him on his new car.

Asked if he was going to shop more at Island Companies, Elias responded: “Every day now.”
