Prospect store robbed

Royal Cayman Islands Police detectives are investigating an armed robbery at a Prospect grocery store.

About 8.50 pm Thursday, two masked men entered McRuss grocery store on Marina Drive. Witnesses said one of the men was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

The men threatened the cashier and demanded money. Police said the cashier’s eight-year-old son and some customers were in the store during the robbery.

The suspects grabbed a sum of money, ran out of the store and are then believed to have entered a black Toyota Prado before driving off from the scene, police said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.

Police said the suspects wore dark clothing and Halloween masks. One of the robbers was around 5’3″ and the other was around 5’11” . They both were of medium build and spoke with Caymanian accents, police said.

Anyone who was in the area at the relevant time and witnessed the crime, or the suspects fleeing the scene in the black Prado, is asked to contact George Town police station on 949-4222 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477 (TIPS).

  1. This Island still has the nerve to sell itself as low crime rate sorry but in whose blind eyes is it like this ,waken up Cayman the island is on a slippery slope to becoming yet another third world destination, what with unemployment ,crime and poorly run government with people who really know no better.
What is it that a Thursday day/night seems to be the day for crimes is it for your weekend fix of drink and drugs that you see fit to terrorize and rob honest people who are trying to make a living ,when are the police going to do some hard policing and stop allowing this to happen !

  2. Its just easy pickings in the Cayman Islands for these crooks and the word seems to be getting around to the other low lifes. I dont see any way the Law can put a stop to these crimes. In the US Inner City Stores deter Robbers by posting a guard in a back room with a rifle pointed out of a hole in the wall. Pick off a few would be robbers and the rest will think twice. Just look at how many home invasions there were until someone faced a burgler down and put his lights out. These guys are cowards and will only target folks who will not fight back.

  3. Discription of Robbers, Male aproxiately 57 150 LBS, speaking with a Caymanian accent, wearing a teeshirt with the words Born caymanian on it and oh yeah he was carrying a Caymanin Birth Certificate. And I am absolutely sure he was an expat.

  4. I am fully convinced that the Cayman Islands Police force and elected government is run by a bunch of monkeys and circus clowns.

These stories are so commonplace in your newspapers now, it is rare not to see a story on crime, robbery, burglary, etc.

It is time your island realizes what everyone else off island is already saying-you are no longer a destination location.
