Watson helps club edge it

Week 3  of the TeleCayman Squash Business League was last Thursday and without fail there were some fantastic matches played at the South Sound Squash.

Twelve matches with 12 teams and 24 players square off every Thursday at 7:15pm with the exception of next week because of the Cayman Open.

The Spring TeleCayman Business league consists of two divisions with teams representing Ernst & Young, Alphasoft, AON, TeleCayman, EFG Bank, Admiral, BDO, the South Sound Squash Club, two teams from Samson & McGrath and two teams from KPMG (Blue and White).

Each division will play five matches in a round robin format when they will be fed into a playoff draw finishing up on 5 May.

Division One had the closest exchange with the South Sound Squash Club with a tight win over Samson & McGrath and Ernst & Young squeezing out a victory from Alphasoft, with 3-2 scores.

Ernst & Young took a tight win over Alphasoft in Division One, but not without a battle.

Paul Johnson (Alphasoft) took the first match over Geoff Bakker (Ernst & Young) 3-2, but then left it to Ruan de Villiers (Ernst & Young) to take out Warren Urquhart (Alphasoft) 3-1.

The scores were calculated and Ernst and Young emerged the winner.

The South Sound Squash Club has been coming out strong each week, but as in Week 2, this week had a very tight contest with Samson & McGrath B. Alex Frazer, a graduate of the junior programme, went head to head against the always inspiring Marlene West.

However, experience told as West took the match 3-2.

The next match brought Gabe Rabess against Dean Watson, a former professional turned coach, with Watson taking the win 3-0.

His victory allowed the club to squeak out a 3-2 finish.

The final tie in Division One included a solid win by Samson & McGrath A over AON.

The powerful team with Myron Blair had little trouble defeating the Energizer bunny Nick Buckley 3-0 and Chantelle Day defeated Janet Sairsingh 3-0.

All of the ties in Division Two concluded with the winning team’s earning 3-0 victories over their opponents.

BDO took the win from team TeleCayman with Glen Trenouth defeating Valeriu Danulescu 3-0 and Adil Anwar winning over Bob Kanner 3-0.

EFG Bank triumphed over KPMG White, with Dwight Dube over Preshendran Odayar 3-0 and Martin Byrne over Sam Story 3-0.

In the final pairing KPMG Blue defeated Admiral as Faisal Anwar took out  3-0 and Jan-Sarel Kruger finished the evening with a win over Desmond Ebanks 3-0.
