An operator is being sought for the former Gecko Bar on Seven Mile Beach.
The property is directly opposite what used to be the Courtyard Marriott, which was bought by Dart Realty along with nearby land including the former beach bar.
Nine potential operators toured the site on Friday, 18 March, said Dart’s chief operating officer, Jackie Doak.
She added that the addition of a new beachfront bar and restaurant, plus eventually a new hotel, would enhance the tourism experience and create jobs and opportunities.
The former Courtyard Marriott site has been closed since Hurricane Paloma in 2008.
The new owners are undergoing feasibility studies and noted that it would be at least 18 months before the building could reopen.
The lease for the bar would be a for a minimum of a year, said Mrs. Doak, who added that this would be for interim use because eventually the bar would become part of the amenities of the hotel.
A liquidation sale for all remaining furniture, fixtures and equipment will be held at the hotel on Saturday, 2 April, and Sunday, 3 April, from 8am to 6pm.
