After roughly three months of matches, Cayman’s national netball league is in its critical stages.
The 2011 senior netball league sees its final five matches over the next eight days. The competition, put on by the Cayman Islands Netball Association, features matches taking place at 6.30pm on the netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
First up is a pair of games this Saturday 2 April. Rising Stars A look to stay in contention for a post-season honours as they face Unity B. Meanwhile Roma A looks to keep its standing as a top club when it battles arch-rivals All Stars A.
Faye Green is manager of the Unity teams and her sides have struggled thus far. With a number of games against tough opposition to end the year it would be easy for Green to be disheartened. Instead she focuses on the improvements the squads have made.
“Up to the late parts of March the A team had won one game and the B team had not won any games,” Green said. “But the B team learned a lot. They went from scoring four points in their first game to having 20 odd points so far. They came in and didn’t know anything about netball and I formed the team wanting to get them experience.
“Their discipline is great and it’s about attitude with them more than winning. On the whole I’d say it’s going good. Trust me the other teams are encouraging us and we’re simply glad for them.”
