Most of the sports teams in Cayman bearing the name Ritz Carlton Lions have been competitive. The same can be said for the youth flag football squad.
The Lions have started out unbeaten in the 2011 The Security Centre Youth Flag Football League. The side notched their third straight victory in dramatic fashion at the Camana Bay field last Saturday.
A last second touchdown by two-way star Daniel Foster, 13, would be enough to take down the Security Centre Patriots 13-12. The catch was arguably the biggest in Foster’s budding flag football career as 2011 marks his first season in the sport. With the win the Lions are a game ahead of the Strategic Risk Solutions Steelers in the middle division.
The Steelers were also in action on Saturday. The side took down the struggling Dart Dolphins 26-14. Interestingly the Dolphins were leading at half-time before the Steelers fought back with consecutive scoring drives. The other middle division match on the day saw defending group champions the Al la Kebab Titans down the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association Colts 20-12.
One of the more interesting matches of the day came in the junior division. The Maples Raiders stayed near the top of the group with a 18-6 win over the Walkers Wolverines. Brad Lansdell was the star of the match for Maples.
