The TeleCayman Squash Business League resumed after the break for the Cedrus Investments Cayman Open and there were some exceptionally close matches in Division 1, however, some very decisive wins in Division 2.
Week 5 was the last week before the TeleCayman Business League steers towards it’s playoff rounds. The playoff draw will commence on Thursday and conclude with the finals on 5 May.
The results and some scores from week five:
Division One
Samson and McGrath A took the win over Ernst & Young, however not without a fight. Shaun Geils (Samson & McGrath A) squeaked a win over Ernst & Young’s Ruan de Villiers 3-2 in an exciting exchange. That left Myron Blair (Samson & McGrath A), taking out Geoff Bakker (Ernst & Young) with little resistance 3-0.
The other Samson and McGrath B team took on Alphasoft and came out the winner, with the identical scores as their A team. The highlight of this team tie was Warren Urquhart (Alphasoft) who had a great match with former squash coach at the SSSC Karen Cheung (subbing in for Gabe Rabess) winning 3-2. Marlene West with a solid victory over Paul Johnson, 3-0.
The final tie in Division 1 was the South Sound Squash Club who defeated AON. Glenn Stark, national coach, claimed bragging rights over Nick Buckley (AON) 3-0. Following was Fernando Beckles (South Sound Squash Club) taking on Janet Sairsingh and came out the victor with a 3-1 win.
Division Two
Once again, Division 2 matches were a little more one sided.
Admiral took the win from team TeleCayman with Desmond Ebanks (Admiral) defeating Valeriu Danulescu (TeleCayman) 3-1 and Alistair Cowper (Admiral) winning over Bob Kanner (TeleCayman) 3-0.
BDO triumphed over KPMG White, due to the one man team of Sam Story having to play both KPMG White’s matches. Story notched a win over Iain Robertson (BDO) 3-0 and then went back on to play BDO’s Adil Anwar. Unfortunately, there was no fairytale ending for Story and Adil claimed the win 3-1.
In the final pairing KPMG Blue defeated EFG Bank as young and inspiring Julian Jervis subbed in for Simon Cawdery (EFG BANK) took out Jan-Sarel Kruger (KPMG Blue) 3-0 and Faisal Anwar (KPMG Blue) finished the evening with a win over Simon Nock 3-0.
