Nico Polloni is Cayman’s number-one player in the PricewaterhouseCoopers junior tennis circuit’s 11-and-under division but he will have fierce competition this weekend.
On-court battles among youngsters of all ages will feature on Saturday and Sunday at the Ritz in the penultimate PwC tournament of the 2010-11 season. The format will be a round-robin unless there is a very high number of entries.
Juniors wanting to compete are asked to collect an entry form from either Thomas Neuert at the Ritz or Rob Seward or Dale Avery at the tennis club. Entries must be submitted no later than Wednesday 4 May. Cost is only $25 per player.
Coach Neuert said: “Nico is a great player. We call him the mini Nadal because he is energetic and fast like Rafael Nadal and looks a little bit like him. He won the Under-11 title last year and was one of the lucky winners to go to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy for a week last year.”
This year’s winners of the PWC tournament will also get an all-expenses paid week-long trip to the Bollettieri academy in December. Their only expense is flight.
Neuert said: “We’re hoping to get a lot of kids after the Easter break. It should be a lot of fun.”
