Child month Parent Fair set
at Camana Bay

The Education Ministry will host a Parent Education and Information Fair at the Camana Bay Arts and Recreation Centre, from 9am to 4pm Saturday, 21 May, as part of Child Month activities.

Informative and fun activities has been planned for parents, child-care workers and young children, including mini-workshops throughout the day for parents and children, lots of giveaways, a wide range of booths from government and private sector agencies and special activities for children, such as martial arts, face painting, bouncy castle, story telling, arts and crafts and music and movement.

All activities are free, and will include eye, dental and blood pressure screenings for adults and children.

The event is organised by the Early Years task force, which was established by the ministry to foster collaboration and support for the strategic development of early childhood care and education in the Cayman Islands.

Task force Chair Laurel Fraser said, “Early Years task force members have been planning this event for some time and with the sponsorship and support of the ministry and Camana Bay we have made excellent progress.

“We have been overwhelmed by offers from persons wanting to provide workshops and booths, so individuals coming out will be exposed to a wide range of activities, expertise and services that are available for anyone working with young children.”

Education Minister Rolston Anglin, who will be on hand to open the fair, expressed his appreciation and support for the event.

“My ministry is committed to ensuring that Cayman’s children receive quality early childhood care and education. The work of the task force and this fair are all part of efforts we’re undertaking to help us achieve this goal,” he said. “I’m looking forward to this very exciting event, and I encourage parents and other adults to come out and bring their children along for what promises to be a very informative and fun day.”

Participating agencies include the Public Health Department, nutritionists, the Fitness Centre, Cayman Music Therapy, the Early Childhood Care and Education Unit, the Early Intervention Unit, Department of Children and Family Services, the National Trust, Vigoro Nursery, Body for Mums, War on Weight, Little Darlings and TrinCay Medical Services.

Free transportation is also being organised and details will be provided at a later date.
