Most of the talk around dominoes for 2011 has been about team East End. However many clubs have motivation to play the final set of matches and one of them is team Archie’s.
The 2011 national domino league wraps up this Sunday 22 May. Put on by the Cayman Islands Domino Association, the competition closes with a double-header in George Town. Team Archie’s plays its finale against team Helium/Temperature at its home venue Archie’s bar (across from Funky Tangs). Meanwhile Team DLK hosts East End at its home setting, the DLK/Dump Road bar.
According to the last available standings, Archie’s are third with 40 points and an 8-4 record. Helium/Temperature on the other hand are down in sixth place at 4-9 with 20 points. DLK (formerly team Buttonwood) are in fourth with an 8-5 mark and 40 points. Above them are team East End who are unbeaten at 13-0 and have over 60 points this season.
A victory for either Archie’s or DLK would secure a third place position. Helium/Temperature meanwhile are looking for an upset to catch fifth-place West Bay squad Kelly’s (5-8, 20 points). For East End a win or a loss will not oust them from the top spot as Island All Stars are a distant second with 50 points.
This weekend’s matches come after a well-attended super knockout domino tournament held over the weekend at The Mango Tree.
