Ever since the party system came into effect (not sure of the year), Cayman has continued its downward spiral as far as its effect on the population of these fair Islands. I realise that times have changed and more things need to be addressed and to be done, but I have been against this form of government from the onset and in my opinion, we need a change.
I can’t count how many times a party in power did something (add a new building, change some laws, create more red tape), only to have all that work and money used be torn down by the new incoming government. Not only that, but we have changed in the way that we look at each other. It seems to me to be a case of ‘them against us’ mentality.
Personalities need to be taken out of the equation, so change is needed and vital for the future of our upcoming generations. Where are the people who should be putting Cayman first?
Sitting in their fancy padded chairs in the LA doing what THEY think is best for us all, but this is far from the case. We are now being run by a government that seems to be hell bent on destroying what is left of society and our precious environment. Is this now the day of ‘One man, One government’? If this indeed is the case, and with each passing day it seems more apparent that we need to have some serious soul searching from our voting public and let’s find those few (sad but true) who are willing to put the Islands back on a sound footing before it’s too late.
Yes, we need development, yes, we need jobs, but we need to do things in balance with our fragile environment, which, after all, is what made the fair islands what they are today. Why is it so hard to visualise a Cayman with new developments that enhance the environment and vice versa?
To be or not to be is the question.
