Second gas station robbery, shot fired

Royal Cayman Islands Police
were investigating another gas station heist Friday night where a gunshot was fired.

No one was injured at the
Jose’s Esso on Crewe Road in the 8.40pm robbery.

Investigators said a man brandishing what appeared
to be a handgun threatened the attendants and made off with some cash.

Officers said the man ran
behind the store following the robbery and apparently fired a shot.

The gunman was said to be
about 6’1″ tall and of dark complexion, wearing black clothing, gloves and
a mask.

  1. How come every day the news almost goes like this

    Crime story

    Normal story

    Crime story

    Crime story

    Small insignificant normal story

uhhhhh…..somethings not right here. I thought a month ago, crime this year was lower than last year. Guess that report should have waited until the end of this year huh.

Who knows…maybe we can call up the guiness book of records and have the Island mentioned for crime per capita. At least that’s something to brag about.

  2. What a shame. As a frequent visitor to your beautiful island I was set to purchase a home and move full time. Your crime is absolutely out of control. The last few visits I have felt unsafe on several occasions. There seems to be a callousness with your youth I can only compare with urban areas in the U.S. (I lived in downtown Detroit for several years) Many of your young workers are glued to their cell phones and act extremely put off if you interrupt them and enter their place of business.

I just moved to a town with a similar population as GC in Florida and would be appalled if there were the number of Machete attacks, murders, robberies, beatings, drug busts as are common on your island.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any cure to your problems. I am hopeful something can be done and will always remember the Grand Cayman of my younger days.

  3. Instead of having the equivalent of a football team of security guards tripping and falling to greet you at the Government building, to escort even those who work there, put that money into more police. After my visit on Friday, I thought I had visited the headquartwers of the FBI. Who needs that much security for people in that building.I think they overestimate their importance.

Who makes up the RCIP anyway.Whoever it is, you better start to do something soon like increase patroling. There needs to be a strong presence of police felt and patrol cars is a good start.

There are beautiful beaches elsewhere. So protect what you have Cayman or crime will whip out from underneath what you do have.

  4. Perhaps someone could explain to me why since there is so much gun play on the Island, the police are so ineffective and why isn’t there a mandatory 10 years in jail for carrying a concealed gun and 20 years for using it in the commission of a crime.

One would think with all the crime I read about almost every day the jails would be overflowing with bad criminals until the only people left loose on the island were good law abiding citizens.

Time for a new Sheriff in town, an effective one, don’t ya think!
