The annual Historical Treasure Hunt in George Town attracted a record 23 teams last month.
Focusing on George Town’s history and monuments participants had to visit seven locations: Fort George, the Town Hall/Town Clock, Cayman Islands National Museum, Heroes Square, Public Library, Post Office and the Step Well in Bayshore Mall.
“This has become a much-anticipated event of Cayfest and provides a great opportunity for residents and visitors to learn about the history of our capital city,” said Racquel Brown, manager for Tourism Development Services. “From the feedback we have received over the years, participants welcome the fun and invigorating walk through town, seeing the sights through fresh eyes and engaging in friendly competition with friends, families and even strangers, for great prizes,”
First-, second- and third-place prizes were awarded to the participants who not only answered correctly, but were also the quickest in completing their visits to all the sites. The Cereal Killers took the first prize of Cayman Airways tickets. Second prize of a dinner at Pappagallo’s was awarded to Cayman Vikings, and The Terriers took the third prize of a Marineland tour.
Entertainment was provided by the Cayman Islands Marching Band, led by Professor C. Powell, KRI Performing Arts School, Quadrille Dancers and Pandemonium Steel Jamm. Giveaways were provided by the Department of Tourism and Cayman National Cultural Foundation.
