Co-ed softball is coming back on to the Cayman sports scene next month.
The Fall Adult Co-ed Softball League is slated to begin 25 July. The competition, organized by the Cayman Islands Little League, will see matches throughout the week at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
The league, which sees an earlier start from previous editions, is being organized as usual by Alan Markoff. A player himself for the Coors Light Chuggers, Markoff states a number of changes are in store this season.
“There will be some shake-up in the league alignments, so there will be new teams in each league,” Markoff said. “Home Gas will remain the team to beat in the A league, but Kirk Freeport will be looking to give them a run for their money and take the title back. The B League is always wide open and while Doghouse tends to dominate in the regular season, they’ve never been able to win the championship.
“You’ll also have the Coors Light Chuggers coming down to the B League after a tough season in the A League and with that team’s combination of ability and experience, I’m sure they’ll be in the mix. The C-League is ultra-competitive and I’m sure Billy Bones will again be tough but you can’t count out The Security Centre or HSBC.”
Co-ed softball finished its first season of the year back in May. Home Gas (featuring veterans like Marlon Thomas) won the A league, Maples (with sports figure Shawn Pitterson) claimed the B league and The Security Centre (under the guidance of vice captain Shayne Howe) nabbed the C league championship. For the record the three leagues represent varying levels of competition with A being intense, B being recreational and C labelled as social.
Matches are slated to last 12 weeks until mid-November. For more information e-mail [email protected]
