Sound off amps up

Car enthusiasts into loud sound systems should be excited.

This Saturday 2 July sees another gathering put on by the Cayman Auto Enthusiasts Association. The meet, titled ‘Beating down yo block,’ is slated to take place on the premises of Cayman Karting Ltd on Sparky Drive.

As with previous events, at the centre of the night are competitions involving loud car noises. There will be a Sound Pressure Level tournament featuring three classes, a sound clash between car audio systems and an exhaust note contest.

The last association meet took place in May at the A.L. Thompson’s parking lot in George Town. Titled Got Bass, dozens of people came out to see a variety of rides including a fifth generation Chevy Camaro and a Lexus IS300.

Interestingly a number of people involved in local sports are into the car audio scene. Swimming prodigy Seiji Groome competes with a Honda Accord and basketball player Simeon ‘JJ’ Stewartson uses a Dodge Caravan.

May’s gathering was the first for 2011. The association held two trial meets on West Bay Road to gauge community support last year before officially being formed in January.

Action takes place 7-10pm with registration from 6.30pm. Refreshments are expected to be on sale. For more information e-mail [email protected]
