More than 400 spectators from the Cayman Brac community turned out to see four young ladies compete Saturday night for the Miss Teen Cayman Brac 2011/12 title at the Aston Rutty Centre.
The teens, Evelyn Ebanks, Caitlin Connor, Josanda Scott and Nicole Martin of Cayman Brac displayed a spectacular showcase of talent and impressed judges with knowledge, beauty and awareness of current events.
“The talent segment was quite a challenge for judges,” said committee chair Lion Ventisha Conolly, “There was quite an array of talents ranging from poetry and vocal music to instrumental and dance”, she said.
Nicole Martin, 16 was crowned Miss Teen Cayman Brac 2011/12 and awarded the title Miss Photogenic.
Josanda Scott received first runner-up, Best Talent, Best Costume and Best Gown titles. Caitlin Connor, second runner-up received the Cecily Rose Community Spirit Award, a $1,000 tertiary education scholarship courtesy of Cleveland and Celina Dilbert, the People’s Choice Award, Miss Congeniality and Most Aware. Evelyn Ebanks received third runner-up.
The Cecily Rose Ebanks Community Spirit Award was introduced a few years ago in honour of the late Mrs. Cecily Rose Ebanks who was a stalwart in community service.
“Together, we can make a difference in our community and the Miss Teen Contest is just one way in which we help to build that positive image among our young ladies,” Ms Conolly said.
Also in attendance were Cayman Brac Little Miss Kassandra DaCosta, Junior Miss Lori Parchman, Miss Teen Cayman Leanne Ritch, La Femme and Koalition Dance groups and entertainer Deandra Watson.
The Miss Teen Committee along with the board of directors and other members of the Lions Club of Cayman Brac express gratitude to all sponsors, judges, entertainers, the Mcees, teens parents, Leos members and patrons.
The committee would like to clarify to the public that not all sectional prizes contributed to the final points used for selecting the winner and runners-up.
The People’s Choice Award was voted on by patrons at the show and was not counted towards the final points. Likewise, the girls decide on Miss Congeniality through a voting process and this too is not used towards the final points.
