Rising stars of fashion participate in workshop show

Aspiring designers – 11 of them – put it all on the line recently in the Fresh Cayman Couture fashion workshop led by local designer Kidan Brooks.

The intense weeklong session, sponsored by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, included drawing, sewing and colouring. At the end of the workshop, each participant produced a portfolio that will be used to make the garments that are judged for selection in next spring’s Fresh Cayman Couture fashion show.

In a brilliant ice-breaker, the designers got to know each other by working on designing a toilet paper dress. The designers then had to really crunch it to create an eight-piece collection before presenting their portfolio to an audience of friends, family and representatives from the Cayman National Cultural Foundation.
