Celebrate 49 years of Trinidad and Tobago independence next weekend with games, music, food and competitions.
From 26-28 August, festivities will be under way at Singh’s Roti Shop. There will be food, drink specials, dancing, dominoes and guest entertainers from Trinidad to make the celebration one to remember.
Kicking off on Friday, 26th, you’ll be entertained by steel pan music, Trinidadian emcee and radio personality Paul Akal and Digicel comedian Kevin Heath. There will be a darts competition, a trivia quiz and a beer-drinking competition (first to drink three without spilling) for a chance to win a Blackberry from Digicel. Also, DJ Todd will play a mixture of old and new soca tunes until 1am.
On Saturday, 27th, a Trinidadian breakfast of doubles, aloo pie and fish pie is on offer, and at lunch, curry duck – an authentic Trinidadian delicacy. From 3pm there’s a Trinidad cards competition, and from 8pm to midnight. Morvin Brooks & Island Vibes will get you out on the dance floor with great Caribbean music. All guests who attend Saturday night’s event are eligible to win two airline tickets to Jamaica, courtesy of Travel Pros.
The fun continues on Sunday, 28th, with a dominoes competition from midday, with prizes and trophies for the winners. This competition is open to all dominoes players; fee is $10 per person/$20 per pair.
Vera Kissoon, owner of Singh’s, encourages one and all to enjoy the weekend’s Caribbean sounds and entertainment.
