A spiritual journey to a divine Island

Life can throw up some unexpected pains and glories at equal turn. And what literature can do is to shine a spotlight on how these aspects of existence can affect the human experience.

Author Lorraine Carey is no exception. Her memoir, Losing Ground, is described as ‘The true story of a gifted intuitive’ and tracks her journey from self-destruction through visions and visits from ghosts and angels to a spiritual awakening that led her to Grand Cayman.

“The book was inspired by many strange occurrences in my life,” she tells Weekender. “Especially ones that seemed to be following a distinct pattern. These occurrences eventually came to light years later as I felt I had an ‘epiphany’ coming full circle.

“The biggest motivation to get my story told was after the death of my parents as I needed a release of so many emotions as you will read in the book when I was going ‘down the rabbit hole.’ The book reflects my emotions as I was dealing with grief at that time.”

Hidden messages

According to the book’s press release, Lorraine uncovers the hidden messages behind repetitive patterns in her own life that helped her discover her master plan, readers will relate to her experiences and find solace in knowing that we are all steadily moving toward a destination with purpose and powerful intent.

“In a spiritual sense, Cayman is so rich. You can truly see a divine presence here. I see diverse group of religions here and people who do share one thing in common-that fact that we are protected by their strong faith. I noticed that lots of people here are always singing and happy. This kind of behaviour gives off great positive energy and that is what I feel here. I did not feel or see that in the States. Cayman is the kind of place that can soothe your soul.

“One of my favourite moments was when I came here with my husband for his job interview and as we lay on the sand at Cemetery Beach I gazed up to the sky to see a cloud formation which was in the shape of a circle of angels holding hands. I knew then that this was a sign that we were meant to be here,” she says.

Powerful words

Lorraine considers the writing experience very therapeutic and a release. Words, she says, have power.

“The biggest surprise to me on my own journey was when I finally gave up the fight to break the vicious life cycle I was trapped in. I started to listen to my intuition and suddenly it gave way to open another door in my life – that was writing.

“I do believe people can get in touch with their own ‘personal universe’ by praying to whatever religion they believe in and asking for clarity of mind to help them see the right path to take and trust in their own intuition in the fact that there is some higher Divine Purpose leading the way no matter how tragic life may be at times. Sometimes we wonder why things happen and it may be years down the road until we see the light and find answers.”
