Another weapon recovered in George Town
Royal Cayman Islands Police arrested a man and woman Thursday afternoon after an operation in the Prospect area that recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol.
Around 11.30am, the RCIPS helicopter and K-9 patrols, along with the Uniform Support Group and Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force mounted a targeted operation on a house in the Marina Drive area of Prospect, police said.
During that operation a loaded .45 semi-automatic pistol was recovered along with a ski mask, gloves and camouflage clothing, police said. The man and woman were arrested at the home on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“This was a well-planned and executed operation involving specialist resources of the RCIPS,” said police Superintendent Kurt Walton.”It is one of many operations we have and will continue to carry out as a direct response to the gun related crime which is currently blighting Grand Cayman. The public can expect to see many more of these high profile operations take place during the coming weeks.
“We also warned earlier this week that the amnesty window is now closed. Anyone who is in possession of unlicensed or illegal weapons can expect that they will be in our sights and our aim is to take them and the deadly weapons they hold off the streets.”
Anyone with information about gun crime in the Cayman Islands should contact their local police station, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777 or the confidential Crime stoppers number 800-8477 (TIPS).
Second weapon found
At about 2.30pm on Friday, police officers responding to calls from the public found a man in possession of an unlicensed
firearm at a central George Town address. When police arrived, the male suspect discarded the firearm and fled the scene, officers said. .
A semi-automatic pistol along with
ammunition was recovered from the scene and police are seeking a 26-year-old male in connection with the firearm.
“This is the second unlicensed firearm the RCIPS has recovered in the last two
days,” said Superintendent Kurt Walton.

So are these the same masks that were used during some of the recent robberies? Or are these people wannabe robbers who haven’t started a crime spree yet?
Now deal with them severely.
Lock them up or deport them if non nationals.
Don’t just let them go with a slap on the wrist, or they’ll just get another gun from somewhere and you’re back where you started.
The gun in the picture looks like it was recently spray painted. I wonder if it works even though it was found loaded. Not that I think the punishment should be any less. At least they found the ski mask too and this couple presumably don’t look like or have the financial ability to be real snow skiers. Sounds like a massive operation of men and equipment for 1 gun but I suppose we all have to be thankful that I more gun is off the street…..now go and get the other few hundred around the place and let’s keep some good news flowing.
DNA on the masks etc?
local lock them up. non local, no deportation. lock them up. it is an opportunity to send a message to all others with illegal firearms in the streets.
