George Ian Duffell appeared in Summary Court on Tuesday charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm with intent near the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay on the evening of Thursday, 8 September. Duffell, 40, is accused of beating and stabbing Sergio Alfonso Ramos Numez with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. He is accused of stealing CI$200 from the victim and using force to do so.
Defence attorney John Furniss told Magistrate Valdis Foldats his client denied the charges.
The magistrate said with the recent change in legislation eliminating preliminary inquiries in serious matters, these charges are “transmitted forthwith” to the Grand Court.
Duffell was remanded in custody until Friday, 23 September, when he is to be produced to the Grand Court. Mr. Furniss said he would be making an application for bail there.
