Bravo for the creative inspiration behind the BRAvo workshops that inspire humorous designs on, yes, bras that are then placed on exhibit as part of a fundraiser for the breast cancer awareness campaign of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens.
In time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the second of two workshops takes place from 3-6pm Saturday, 1 October, at 24K-Mon Jewelers and Art Gallery. Women bring bras and materials to make works of whimsical art for a good cause and, in many cases, in memory of a loved one who succumbed to the disease.
“It’s all in fun and the fun brings awareness to the women,” says organiser Gale Tibbetts, who adds that last year’s workshops drew participants ranging in age from 11 to 76. Tibbetts, who lost a sister to breast cancer, is a huge advocate for the awareness campaign who has combined her artistic talents with an innovative series of events.
Tibbetts’ efforts are further underscored by the fact that two of her friends were afflicted by the disease in the past year.
“Our mission is to raise funds and bring awareness of breast cancer by way of the creativity of others,” she states in a press release. “Through the expressions of the artists’ work we hope to bring enjoyment in the viewing of the pieces, as well as rouse the knowledge of this dreadful disease.”
When the bras are on exhibit, from 3 October through early November at 24K-Mon Jewelers, viewers may bid on their favourites, with all proceeds going to the breast cancer awareness campaign.
