A group of Cayman Brac senior citizens received complimentary roundtrip airfare from Cayman Airways to attend a weekend retreat on Grand Cayman last weekend.
In addition to donating 16 roundtrip tickets for the group, Cayman Airways also hosted a special breakfast at its headquarters upon the group’s arrival to the Island on Thursday, 6 October. They were greeted with a warm welcome by Cayman Airways President and Chief Executive Officer Fabian Whorms, along with other staff members and the airline’s senior management. The breakfast was followed by a tour of the airline’s ticket office, reservations department and flight operations.
“It is our pleasure to welcome you all to our Cayman Airways ‘home’ and to have the opportunity to let you know that we at Cayman Airways are thrilled to be a part of making your visit to Grand Cayman possible this weekend,” said Mr. Whorms. “I am particularly pleased in this instance that we were able to accommodate this group of senior citizens from the Sister Islands with air transportation for this trip.”
Mrs. Annie Rose Scott, community development officer for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, who organised the trip, said, “It isn’t easy for a lot of the Cayman Brac seniors to travel and we are so thankful to Cayman Airways for sponsoring this trip as well as treating us all to a wonderful breakfast”.
Mrs. Scott said the trip is part of the “Annual Senior Citizen’s Weekend Retreat” in East End hosted by the Department of Children and Family Services and Community Development Services in celebration of International Day of Older Persons 2011. The retreat is sponsored by the Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing. The Brac senior citizens also enjoyed a host of other activities and events while on Grand Cayman, including a tea party at the Governor’s residence on Friday, 7 October.
Mrs. Scott said the 16 group members were chosen for the trip through a raffle at the annual “International Day of Older Persons Social and Birthday Party” held on September 30th at the Aston Rutty Civic Center on the Brac.
“That event was organized by the DCFS, the Senior Citizens Social Club, and the Community Development Action Committee, and the trip was also made possible by the Senior Citizens Social Club and Economy Car Rentals,” Mrs. Scott said.
