Cancer walk/run drew hundreds

More than 700 walkers and runners turned out for the 14th Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Annual Brenda Tibbetts-Lund 5K Memorial Walk/Run at West Bay Public Beach on Saturday.

The walk was originally organised in memory of Brenda Tibbetts-Lund who lost her battle with breast cancer. The event seeks to raise money to fight against breast cancer and to promote the importance of early detection as the best protection in this fight. A special survivors’ tent on the beach allowed interaction between the survivors, family members and participants in the walk/run.

Awards for the run/walk were given for first, second and third place in different age sections. Spot prizes were given, which included a $500 travel voucher donated by Higgs & Johnson, champagne brunches by Westin and Ritz-Carlton resorts, an island tour by Webster Tours and more.

Lion Wendy Wiltshire, chairperson of the BCA Committee, said she was overwhelmed by the continued support from the public for this event. She gave a special thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and members of the Lions family who she said made the event the success it was.
