Charges of fraud filed against former restaurant manager

The former general manager of three George Town restaurants has been charged with fraud and false accounting, according to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

The charges were filed Tuesday against Arthur Screaton, 52, who managed Rackam’s, Carlos & Martin’s and the Lone Star Bar & Grill for about 18 months between mid-2009 and late-2010. Mr. Screaton formerly managed another George Town restaurant, but the charges relate to activities at the three named restaurants.

Mr. Screaton was arrested on 23 January in connection with what Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said was an “ongoing fraud investigation”. He was later released on police bail and allowed to leave Cayman for a brief time.

He is due to appear in court on the case on 1 November, according to police.

Allegations against Mr. Screaton involve accusations he defrauded his former employer of an undisclosed sum of money while managing the establishments.

Attempts to contact Mr. Screaton several times during the past year about the criminal investigation have proved fruitless. The restaurant manager’s former employer has declined to comment publicly about the case.
