Around 2am on Tuesday, officers aboard RCIPS vessels ‘Niven D’ and ‘Tornado’ were conducting border patrols along the south coast of the island when they observed “suspicious activities” near the Pedro Bluff area.
The officers investigated what they initially thought might have been a transfer of contraband at sea and spotted a vessel speeding away.
The marine officers contacted the RCIPS helicopter for support and pursued the vessel as it headed out to sea. Police said they saw parcels being thrown from the speeding vessel which was stopped after a short pursuit.
The suspect vessel was confirmed to be a Jamaican canoe. The five packages thrown overboard were all recovered from the water, police said.
All five men arrested were Jamaican nationals. A total of 785 lbs. of ganja was recovered from the water and the craft.
Officers from the Drugs & Serious Crimes Task Force are still looking into the potential involvement of any other suspects in the apparent drug shipment.

People need to try leave ganja alone, it’s natural and its not killin anyone. Maybe they should ban alcohol and ciggarettes because they are abviously killing the people, but yet u dont hear of them making them illegal. If they would allow people to smoke and stop sentencing them in prison for something God made, this island would be better off!!
Ganja makes u smarter and makes u think of positive things, its alcohol and ciggarettes that destroys your brain cells, and that makes you addicted and do stupid things. Even though alcohol have caused people to kill other people and themselves( in accidents)and do stupid things, but yet it is still legal :s people in this world need common sense and stop critizing people that dont have a degree!!!!!!!
