The Cayman Islands Tourism Association has announced that Trina Savage, who has been executive director for the Association since March 2008, will be moving on to new endeavours.
“As executive director for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association over the last three and a half years I have been privy to much excitement and change in the industry,” she said.
“The challenges in the global economy have actually sparked a more competitive edge and made us stronger, driving businesses and professionals to improve and become more efficient. Tourism businesses have been no exception and I’m grateful for being able to collaborate with industry professionals to maintain Cayman’s competitive edge.”
The association said it had been fortunate to have seen growth in its membership over this period, which was a promising sign that the industry understands the strength of working together. Tourism continues to be an integral pilar of Cayman’s economy, which makes the association’s role invaluable.
Some notable highlights over this period have been the successful re-branding of the Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival that continues to flourish and grow as the largest tasting event in Cayman and largest fund raiser for the Association.
The sinking of the Kittiwake brought incredible public relations results, said the body, and it has become a going concern as a scuba diving and snorkel attraction.
Strong relationships established
Strong relationships with media partners including Cayman Free Press have enabled industry updates and communication to be frequently distributed in the Caymanian Compass (including the new Tourism Tuesday section), the Cayman Islands Journal, The Observer On Sunday and the Chamber publications. Positive relationships between Department of Tourism and the tourism association also enable success for the body and its team to effectively liaise on marketing and promotions activities for the destination, added Ms Savage.
“I have enjoyed my time at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and although I will certainly miss the role, I am enthusiastic about the opportunities that exist for the association and the industry with new blood at the helm that can contribute fresh ideas in a new and unique way to bring value to the industry – and I’m excited to see that transpire.
“In notifying the membership and community of my departure it is also an opportunity to thank all of the partners for the support they’ve given to me during my time in this role which has enabled me to make a positive impact on the tourism industry. I’m confident that these same tourism partners who are committed to the success of the industry will provide the support for the next executive director and they too will experience the enjoyment and fulfilment of this camaraderie.”
Actively seeking replacement
The Cayman Islands Tourism Association and its Executive Committee are actively seeking a replacement for this position with the hope of having someone in place by early December. This person will need to be someone who not only fulfils the requirements of the position but who also has a passion for tourism and is ready and willing to represent the membership and the mission of the association.
The association is committed to supporting the tourism industry and it’s member businesses through government relations (lobbying) and through initiatives that will drive the industry forward and meet the goals of the country. By working closely with Department of Tourism, Department of Environment and other relevant agencies, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association is able to contribute on behalf of it’s membership toward the marketing, sales and promotional efforts and environmental initiatives that support the destination.
