Charlton Bengar Ebanks, 21, escaped from his police at the Cayman Islands Hospital shortly after 7am Thursday.
Hospital officials confirmed Thursday that a patient there who was under guard “eloped” from the hospital and disappeared.
No details of how Mr. Ebanks was able to leave were released. Police were investigating the incident to determine how the escape happened.
“We have subsequently been informed by the police that [the patient] is not considered dangerous,” said Medical Director Dr. Greg Hoeksema.
However, police said anyone with information on Mr.Ebanks’ whereabouts should contact officers immediately.
The 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with a driving offence and also had an outstanding warrant.
Officers said Mr. Ebanks was hurt in a crash in West Bay Wednesday afternoon and was taken to hospital for treatment overnight.
Mr. Ebanks, who is described as being 5’ 11″ with brown eyes, dark complexion, black hair and of slim build, is not believed to be a danger to the public.
