Local novice boxer Peter ‘Lightning’ Lewison is well aware of the limitations for getting matched in the Cayman Islands so has taken a leaf out of Charles ‘Da Illa’ Whittaker’s book and will be promoting his own show this weekend.
Lewison, 24, is in action in his second pro contest on Saturday 26 November at the D Dalmain Ebanks gym, Truman Bodden Sports Complex. He will be fighting Florida-based American Brant Skyler as the main attraction. There will be warm up events and entertainment.
Ranked number 431 in the world as a middleweight, Lewison goal is to promote the image of boxing within the Cayman Islands as well as to improve his ranking to become a world champion.
“I grew up in Birch Tree Hill, West Bay and was surrounded by a lot of negativity,” Lewison said. “Therefore I am dedicated to being a positive role model and encouraging the youth to channel their energy through boxing in a positive way.”
Training for a fight and promoting is a taxing role. Lewison, all suited up like a Wall Street exec, went in the ring at the white collar show at Treasure Island and took the mic to try to generate interest in his show.
“I am extremely grateful for the support that I have been getting in the community,” he said. “Without the assistance of my sponsors, none of this event would be possible. I am very excited to promote my second fight and have already sold over 200 tickets, especially since I have had the satisfaction or organising it all by myself. I am also excited to be fighting in my home town. I am going to try my best to knock out my opponent.
