Island Companies holds Christmas season event

Island Companies’ annual Business After Hours event at the beginning of December is becoming something of an island tradition.

This year, the much anticipated event takes place today, 1 December, starting at 5.30pm and will include festivities and chances to win prizes.

The Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours programme is an opportunity for business leaders to meet and network in a social context, as well as a chance for those companies to promote its offerings. Island Companies’ Business After Hours, however, also is a social event that is open to the public.

“Island Companies is very pleased to officially launch the Christmas season and invites everybody to join the celebrations,” said Alexandre Tabacoff, chief executive officer of Island Companies.

Christmas is, of course, the most important shopping season of the year and Island Companies is offering the public a head start: Cardinall Avenue in downtown George Town will be closed to traffic for the evening and the stores in the Island Plaza and Landmark buildings will remain open for late night shopping. It is an opportunity for members of the public to browse the company’s stores in a relaxed setting, catch up with friends and enjoy the refreshments and entertainment.

The evening’s festivities include an open bar, food, a disc jockey and Christmas music – all courtesy of Island Companies. A stage will also be set up on Cardinall Avenue from which Mr. Tabacoff and Founder and Managing Director Renard Moxam will be make speeches and announce charitable donations.

Island Companies is offering residents opportunities to win this Christmas season, beginning today. The first 2,000 people to arrive at the Business After Hours event will receive a $10 gift certificate to spend in Island Companies’ stores. Door prizes, including a Phillip Stein watch and a John Hardy ring, also will be given out.

The first of December also marks the start of Island Companies’ Shop and Win promotion, which runs through 24 December. For every US$100 spent, residents will be entered in a prize drawing to win US$1,000 the following day. Additionally, every US$100 spent in Island Companies stores between 1 December and 7 January earns you one entry into the grand prize drawing for a Fiat 500 convertible.

Typically a well attended event, Island Companies is expecting several thousand people to show up during the course of the evening.

To avoid a long wait to register on arrival, those planning to attend are advised to pre-register online at
