2012 Cayman Cookout a delicious success

The BBQ fire embers are now cold, appetites are sated and most of the celebrity chefs, wine makers and visitors who came for the 2012 Cayman Cookout are making their way home.

Starting with the Tour de France Charity Wine Auction last Thursday evening and ending with a Gala Dinner featuring some of the best chefs in the world, the Cookout featured four days of eating, drinking and fun.

While most of the action took place at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, the event also took foodies to Tiki Beach, the Brasserie, Grand Old House, Luca and to the restaurants at Camana Bay.

Some of the highlights of this year’s event included José Andrés arriving at his demonstration by scuba and then cooking paella on the beach; a beach barbecue at Tiki Beach with celebrity chefs Eric Ripert, José Andrés and Anthony Bourdain manning grill stations while guests ate, drank and danced to the music of Los Tropicanos; the Ultimate Dinner Party at Camana Bay where renowned guest chefs Richard Blais, April Bloomfield, Paul Rogalski joined Michael Schwartz, Cindy Hutson and Ron Jacobson in preparing wine dinners; and the Bon Vivant Sunday Champagne Brunch and Cook-off, where guests not only ate fabulous food and drank sparkling Champagne, but also got to watch amateur chef Eric St-Cyr edge Maureen Cubbon in this year’s cook-off.

Chef Ripert announced at the end of the brunch that he, José Andrés and Anthony Bourdain would all return for the 2013, along with Chef Mario Batali and other celebrities who had already confirmed their participation.
