The feast of magic that is Cayman Culinary month continues with a series of wonderful events that look set to highlight all aspects of what these blessed Islands have to offer.
To tickle the palate there are several options and if there’s one shame about it it’s that despite our best efforts, we’ve still not worked out a way to actually be in two places at once.
Nonetheless for residents, visitors and aliens from the planet Zog the choices are delectable and whichever way you decide to slice it, the pie of pleasure is meaty indeed.

A bumper set of possibilities await the culinary adventurer on the weekend – which is pretty much par for the course in Cayman anyway but actually we’re talking a cracking trio of events on the first day of the long weekend, to whit:
Join Al La Kebab for a multicultural BBQ at Seven Mile Public Beach – it’s the Dine By Design Beach BBQ and it looks hot to trot. We’re told that it is going to showcase Caribbean, Asian, Latin and North American methods and flavours. Wine and beer pairing with meat and seafood dishes, bringing out the best of the seasoning and the vintages alike.
“Ticket price includes two drink tickets and full access to our smorgasboard of flavours: passed appetisers, seven grilling stations, salads and sides as well as dessert,” we’re told.

Alternatively, there’s the classic and fantastic Caribbean-ness of the Rum Tour and Pirate Sail, which combines the skills of the Seven Fathom Rum distillers with the arrrr me hearties good old plunderin’ fun of the Jolly Roger.
“Take a tour,” they advise us, “of Cayman’s first and only distillery and see how rum is made. After sampling various special rums on site, step downstairs from the distillery to board the a real Pirate Ship. On board a two hour sunset cruise you will enjoy a selection of delicious rum-themed appetisers and a signature Seven Fathoms Rum cocktail.” Want more info? 925-5379 is where to go, young padawan.
Finally, and this is an interesting one indeed, Gawk & Leer is hosting a Kyocera Ceramic Knives Demonstration.
General manager of Kyocera USA Erik Reid will demonstrate all Kyocera kitchen products and a food tasting will be created using the products and offered as a small tasting. A Kyocera gift will be offered to all participants and a 10 per cent off on any Kyocera product purchase, we’re advised. You can get more from 945-1914.

Make sure that you’ve rested up on the Sunday because there’s much more of the great stuff to come on this special National Heroes Day holiday.
At Colliers Public Beach in East End, from 10am it’s the Great Fish Tea Cook Off. This, as you may or may not know, will be featuring cooks from the various districts of Grand Cayman preparing their mouth-watering brews that, according to local lore, can add years to your life. Think of fish tea as a potpourri of all things fishy with a bright-red kick. However, an even better bit of advice will be to sample it, and then let the results speak for themselves. Learn more about the Fish Tea Cookoff at surfchallenge.ky.
Margaritaville – where else – is the venue for Margarita Monday – what else? It’s all about the signature drink; sample many different and unique margaritas, paired with appetizers and passed hors d’oeuvres. Come try several of our signature tequila cocktails and enjoy the namesake of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.

Do your bit for the environment – and have a great dive in the process – at the Lionfish Hunt and preparation demo at Divetech, Cobalt Coast. From 5pm, scuba and remove Lionfish then come back on land to learn how to handle and prepare them for eats, in the company of Chef Dora and Chef Ajay. Paired with cold white wine, it’s the most refreshing way yet to be environmentally-friendly.
