Police make arrest in Savannah shooting

A 22-year-old man was arrested during a police operation in George Town Friday afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said the suspect was believed to have been involved in a 19 January shooting that occurred on Hirst Road in Savannah.

Officers pursued the shooting suspect’s vehicle, which ended up crashing into a wall outside an apartment complex on Crewe Road just before 3pm Friday.

A police car that was damaged during the chase had to be towed from the scene, but no one was hurt.

The shooting victim told police that he was attacked on Hirst Road near Countryside shopping plaza around 2.30pm on 19 January. The man had shown up at the hospital suffering from injuries suffered as the result of a gun shot wound, but police had not received any immediate reports of a shooting from the crime scene.

The victim was transported to hospital in a private vehicle after the shooting.

  1. This is becoming far too common…it’s not about access to guns by the innocent but guns full stop. the whole glamour around hip hop and gun culture can’t help. Caribbean folk have brought so much more to the world then a few chippy gangster and it would serve the youth to remember that.
