Royal Cayman Islands Police confirm one man died late Friday night in a single car accident in East End.
The crash was discovered by police around 10.30pm on Sea View Road near the Cottage Point area, although it was not precisely clear when the wreck had occurred.
RCIPS Chief Inspector Raymond Christian said the vehicle was heading west toward Breakers when it veered off the road.
“The vehicle skidded across the right hand side of the road and collided with
almond and coconut trees and then came to rest on the right shoulder of the
road,” Mr. Christian said.
Mr. Christian said the accident was not noticed until an RCIPS patrol unit happened upon the scene. It had not been independently reported.
The 42-year-old driver of the car – identified as Herman Byrd – was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was alone in the vehicle and appeared to have been speeding, police said.
A section of road between Breakers and East End was closed off until early Saturday morning as police took measurements and investigating the accident.

This vehicle should be put on a flatbed truck and taken to all of the high schools on the island, to show students the effect of speeding. If alcohol was involved, and they would know by now, then you show them what happens when you drink drive.
