Sarah Bolton joins Higgs & Johnson
After an absence from local practice, attorney Sarah Bolton was admitted to the Bar of the Cayman Islands on 7 February.
The admission application in the Grand Court was made by Higgs & Johnson’s head of litigation in the Cayman Islands, Philip Boni. Mr. Boni said this was really a re-admission application, since Mrs. Bolton had previously practised in Cayman and with her distinguished career, the firm was privileged to have her.
Justice Alexander Henderson, who presided, welcomed Mrs. Bolton.
“I am pleased to see you coming back,” he said. “We have such a high turnover in the Cayman Islands and it is nice to see people returning.”
The judge also commented that her admission was not simply ceremonial because the Grand Court demands the highest expectations, integrity and honesty of its officers.
Mrs. Bolton was robed by her husband, Andrew Bolton, a well-known attorney in his own right.
Also witnessing the event were Higgs & Johnson partners Derek Jones and Gina Berry, as well as other members of the firm.
Mrs. Bolton joined the firm as head of the investment funds team in Cayman. She has almost 20 years of commercial legal experience involving all aspects of the set-up, launch and restructuring of investment funds and private equity funds. She advises a wide range of clients, including investment managers, institutions and professional service providers, on fund structures using exempted companies, segregated portfolio companies, unit trusts and exempted limited partnerships.
Prior to joining Higgs & Johnson, Mrs. Bolton worked for more than 10 years for Appleby and Ogier (formerly Boxalls) in the Cayman Islands, including a secondment to Jersey, Channel Islands.
She trained and practised with Clifford Chance and Macfarlanes in London and Brussels.
