Man charged with ripping off Rackham’s Pub and Restaurant
Arthur Screaton appeared in Summary Court in Grand Cayman on Wednesday, 15 February for a short form preliminary inquiry regarding two charges of false accounting and two counts of theft in relation to incidents alleged to have taken place at Rackham’s Pub and Restaurant in George Town.
The matter was deemed by Chief Magistrate Nova Hall to have sufficient evidence to be committed to the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands.
During proceedings, the prosecution contended that during the course of a month in 2010, Screaton falsified accounting by stating the earnings for the period were just more than CI$34,000 instead of more than CI$39,000. Prosecutor Nicole Petit claimed that on count two of the indictment Screaton falsified accounting to represent an amount just more than CI$46,000 instead of an amount just more than $CI53,000.
With regard to the two counts of theft Screaton is facing, Ms Petit claimed that between 1 October, 2010, and 31 December, 2010, the defendant stole more than CI$4,000 from the business. On the second count of theft she told the court that Screaton stole $6,723 from the restaurant.
The Crown also proffered an electronic copy of receipts from the period.
The matter will be heard by the Grand Court on Friday, 2 March.
