Squash at the South Sound Squash Club was heated up this past Thursday for TeleCayman Team Squash League as week 3 came to prove some fantastic battles. The League will run every Thursday at 7.15pm until 29 March.
Sponsored teams for the Winter TeleCayman Team Squash League include; Team Aon, Team Sotheby’s International Realty, and two teams from KMPG, Team KPMG 1 and Team KPMG The other teams have been randomly named after a specific shot in the game of squash, Team Volley, Team Boast, Team Nick and Team Drive.
The top match for week 3 was between Team Drive’s Trina Savage and Team Nick’s Bob Kanner (Director of Technical Operations with TeleCayman). Savage has come a long way in the last few months and improving each time she walks on the court and Kanner, after not playing for over a year is getting his squash legs back very quickly as this match proved to be a test to each player.
Kanner started fast, but was matched by Savage as he edged the first game in over points 15-13. Following the long first game, Savage seemed to figure out Kanner’s game plan and took the next three games with little resistance. Final match score went to Trina and Team Drive 3-1 (13/15, 11/5, 11/5, 11/4).
The second top match for the week was chosen not for its length, but for the dynamics of the two players playing against one another. Dan MacLean, from Team Aon went to battle against former employee Greg Meaker, now working and playing for Team KMPG 2. The banter between the two was at times comical for those who knew Meaker was playing his former boss, but MacLean took little sympathy on Meaker as like all competitive sportsmen MacLean was out for the win.
The former boss had the satisfaction of winning 3-0 in Team Aon’s favour (11/2, 11/6, 11/9).
