Peanut tosses fire up Burger King rise

It’s not just the youth chasing flag football glory these days.

The Cayman Islands Flag Football Association 2012 Co-Ed League is heading into its fourth week of play. The adult competition sees matches every Friday night from 6.30pm at the Ed Bush Field in West Bay.

One of the organizers is association board member Perry Levy, a noted athlete in his own right. Levy states a number of surprises are being seen in the league.

“There is nothing much to talk about this early beside last year’s A division champs Hammerheads are a very surprising 1-2,” Levy said. “A new squad called the Argonauts are 2-0 in the A division beating two contenting teams in Hammerheads and Child Please! Maples have jumped out of the gates for a record of 3-0 in the A division.

“Burger King of the B division, led by the legend Gary “Peanut” Rutty, is 2-1. Last year’s B division champs Wolverines are on schedule to repeat, defeating both opponents they’ve faced thus far by an average of 34 points.”

Some 14 teams have signed up for the league, which started in the middle of February. Argonauts, Maples, National Building Society, Queensgate, Hammerheads, Pizza Hut and Child Please! are in the A division. Wolverines, Burger King, Club House, Cobras, Island Air, Cayman Airways and Cayman Auto Diagnostic form the B segment.

A number of sporting talent is on display in the competition such as Scimone Campbell, Courtisha Ebanks and Brad Conolly.
