Roma A continue to defy doubters with impressive showings in Cayman netball.
The latest performance saw the reigning two-time national champions down Rising Stars A 55-35 last Saturday. The Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts hosted the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league showdown.
Controlling the tempo of the game for Roma was Centre Dazema Ricketts, who states the win was a half-hearted effort.
“It was a good game but honestly, Roma was just playing,” Ricketts said. “If the girls had played with their all, the points would have been more. But because we’re friends we did not treat them rough. No matter what, we’re always winners.”
The George Town resident has her squad in the hunt for the regular season title as they sit in third place with a 4-1 record. Even though Roma had no subs, all of the starters were on point and tireless. The roster saw Goal Shooter Kay Copeland, Goal Attack Nicola Pringle, Wing Attack Stacy-Ann Dehaney, Wing Defence Sherina Christie, Goal Defence Paula Hughes and Goal Keeper Ramona Denton (who made her return after a considerable absence).
Rising Stars have now fallen from the unbeaten ranks with a 5-1 mark. They were never in Saturday’s contest trailing 17-6, 13-8, 12-8 and 13-11 in each of the four quarters. The line-up featured GS Casy Swaby, GA Rosemarie Wilson, WA Tricia Skyers-Palacio, C Mariska Blackman, WD Georgia Linton, GD Tara Ramoon, GK Wendy Evans with Patrice Boothe and Marcia Moiten as subs.
Roma are slated to be in action again this Saturday, 17 March, against Unity A. Rising Stars will also play on Saturday at Truman Bodden at 6.30pm, taking on Unity B.
