Secondary track kids get their chance to shine now

High school track kids are in action in their championships this week.

The third Inter-secondary Schools Track and Field Championships will have over 300 athletes from eight high schools competing at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The Ministry of Sports has joined with the Ministry of Education, the Cayman Islands Athletic Association and event sponsors DART and Maples.

Minister of Sports Mark Scotland said: “We’ve worked hard to make the meet bigger and better and want to thank the main sponsors Maples who have come on board in a big way and committed for the next three years to sponsor. This event should be the premier track meet for this age group and with sponsorship and good organisation that is what it’s going to be.

“We’re going to have a huge contingent from Cayman Brac too, almost 40 athletes from Layman E Scott School.”

Admission is free and event times are Monday, 2 April from 9am-3pm and Tuesday, 3 April from 4-9pm.
