Middleweight prospect Peter ‘Lightning’ Lewison took another step up the world rankings with an impressive fourth round stoppage of Florida boxer Alex Perez on Saturday.
In only his third pro fight Lewison captured the National Boxing Association belt in front of a packed crowd at the D. Dalmain Ebanks gym in George Town.
Lewison, 24, used his left jab effectively early on and once he found his range started detonating bombs from all angles to head and body. Veteran Perez took a standing eight count under a barrage of shots and Lewison finished him off with his corner throwing in the towel. Referee Donie Anglin, his former amateur coach, raised his hand. Undefeated Lewison has won all three by stoppage now.
He had trainer Stormin’ Norman Wilson in his corner who is also guiding Charles ‘Killa’ Whittaker towards a world title shot this year. Killa was working Lightning’s corner too as well as Al Suckoo.
The main support fight between Americans Sammy Payne and Calvin Faggins over eight rounds for the NBA junior-welterweight title only lasted two rounds. Faggins was dropped by a left hook at the end of the first and Payne forced the stoppage moments into the second.
The other bout on the bill had Thomas McField stop Bruce ‘Lee’ Coulson in three rounds in an amateur exhibition bout. The musical performance was by Black Ken.
Lewison takes a break before defending his belt, with the intention of attracting a much bigger crowd at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. He has a mass of sponsors so selling tickets should not be a problem for the fighter who should also be commended for staging the show himself through his company Lightning Boy Promotions,
