Remaining Cuban escapees caught

The two remaining Cuban escapees who went on the lam from the George Town Immigration Detention Centre on Saturday night have been recaptured.

According to the Immigration Department, all four men who fled the centre are now back in custody awaiting repatriation to Cuba.

The migrants were part of a group of 28 people that illegally landed in Cayman Brac last month. They were awaiting repatriation to Cuba in the detention centre in Grand Cayman when the escape occurred.

The Immigration Department has still not located two other Cuban man who absconded from the detention centre late last year after their boat arrived in Cayman Brac.

The detention centre, which is a low security facility, has seen a number of escapes over the years. At one point, the facility agreed to let a group of migrants leave custody there for the day, as long as they returned to the centre before dark.

  1. Wasn’t one of these guys about 5’6 and 210lbs, how hard can it be to catch someone built like that?

As for Caymanians escaping, LottaBaloney, once I see Cubans driving Avalanches and using Waverunners, we may see some people fleeing – but not before then.
