Who doesn’t like a good belly laugh once in a while? Genuine laughter is one of the best feelings in the world – and if you can be the one to make others laugh, it’s even better.
The Cayman Drama Society is planning a production of Rumors, a farce by Neil Simon, and is looking for local actors and comedians to fill the cast list.
The play is a lighthearted comedy about five well to do, affluent couples in New York City who gather for a 10th anniversary celebration – but comic complications arise when they discover there are no servants, the hostess has gone AWOL and the host has shot himself through the earlobe.
The drama society production of Rumors will be produced by Adam Cockerill and directed by Paul Njoka. Adam has worked on a number of drama society productions in the past although this will be his first time as producer. Before Cayman, he acted with the Lost Youth Theatre Company of London, England and toured London Schools for a year as well as overseas tours.
Paul has acted in and directed numerous dramas with both Phoenix Players in Nairobi, Kenya and Et Cetera Productions. Although this will be his first time directing a comedy, he is familiar with the play having played in two productions of Rumors in the past.
There is a cast of 10, mostly in their 30s and 40s, consisting of the dinner guests, each of whom has their own quirks, plus two police officers. Those wanting to audition must first complete the audition form and will then be asked to read one the selected monologues from the play. Both the audition form and the monologues can be download from www.cds.ky. “Though perfect delivery of the monologue is not expected, potential actors will be evaluated on preparation, execution and ability to take direction,” Paul says. “The auditions will be very easy-going giving the actors a relaxed forum to achieve their potential.”
Auditions are being held this weekend, on Saturday 26 May, with call backs taking place on Sunday, 27. Rehearsals will then take place throughout June, July and August with the first performance scheduled for 13 September.
