The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands has erected a temporary channel marker at Frank Sound to replace a permanent marker that came loose in rough seas during the past few weeks.
The marker is sitting on a beach in Frank Sound.
Joseph Woods, cruise operations and security manager at the port authority, said the channel marker came loose and sat on the high reef during low tide, making it impossible for a boat to retrieve the marker.
“The boat couldn’t reach it or pull it off, so we put up a temporary marker at Frank Sound,” Mr. Woods said.
Last week’s stormy weather washed the marker off the reef and inland and it is now sitting on a beach in Frank Sound, where the bad weather prevented the port authority boat from again retrieving it.
