Dust off your Stetson and don your best cowboy boots.
A fundraising Country Jamboree is being held this Saturday, 2 June, to raise money for the Veterans & Seaman’s Society of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
The knees up is scheduled to be held in the courtyard at the Alexander Hotel and will feature the country sounds of local musicians Dexter Bodden, Martin Cowboys and Capt. Arlin & Crew, from 7pm. Keeping hunger at bay, a barbecue will be fired up from 6.30pm.
Funds raised will go toward the completion of phase two of the Vision of Faith Lighthouse project, which stands on the grounds of the VSS building on Ashton Reid Drive in Cayman Brac. The project is in recognition of all VSS members who served in the world wars, or were seamen during Cayman’s seafaring era.
Phase one was completed in November 2011 and bears the names of all seamen below the rank of captain. Phase two will bear the names of all sea captains, alive or deceased, from Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Local artist Horacio Esteban has been commissioned to complete the engraving process.
Cayman Airways is offering a special airfare for the weekend of US$99 plus tax, and the Alexander Hotel is offering room rates from CI$85 per night, so there’s no excuse not to go.
Gates open at 6pm. Tickets are $10 general admission, or $20 including barbecue and entry into the raffle. Prizes include a 42 inch flat screen TV and custom built electric guitar.
