Ladies and gentlemen, start your blenders for competition

When it comes to great bartenders, the Cayman Islands certainly has its fair share and when it comes to great rums it doesn’t get any better than Appleton.

The Appleton Cocktail Showcase 2012 is being held at Karoo on Monday, 25 June where your favourite mixologists and wizards will be competing for an amazing prize: a trip to Jamaica to join bartenders from around the world at the Appleton International Bartender Showcase.

Every bartender has to create one original cocktail, and every drink must feature Appleton VX as its main ingredient. As rum lends itself beautifully to recipes and a wide variety of mixers, it will be interesting to see what the competitors produce in an attempt to wow the judges. Points will be awarded for taste, presentation and personality and members of the audience will have a chance to sample the wares.

Hot spots

There will be representatives from such popular hot spots as Agua, Abacus, Rooftop, Deckers, Bamboo, Royal Palms, Kaibo and Karoo (of course) vying for first place. No doubt many will feel it’s time to go big or go home.

Bartending competitions such as these are great social events and definitely spectator sports. You can come along and cheer your favourites as they battle it out, shaker-to-shaker, with only the victor left to tell the tale.

There will be a special Appleton cocktail menu available all evening, and complimentary finger food for those who attend. The action begins at 7pm but if you want to secure yourself a good vantage point, you might want to get there early to bag a seat. May the best bartender win.
