Cocktail competitions are always a big ol’ buncha fun and the Second Annual Cayman Masters Flor de Cana Cocktail Competition, taking place at Sol Bar at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, is gonna be a groovy one.
It all happens on Monday, 2 July – which eagle-peepered readers will know is a holiday here – from 4 to 7pm, says Sarah Hunter of the Marriott.
“Twelve of the island’s most talented bartenders are personally invited to compete. Bartenders compete in rounds of six, each making two cocktails for the judging table, one ‘Signature Cocktail’ and one ‘Classic Cocktail’.
“Not only are the bartenders making these cocktails for the three judges on the judging panel (one of which is the Flor de Cana Brand Ambassador), they must make enough liquid for 50 samples of each cocktail for the 50 exclusive VIP sampling guests. The bartenders’ cocktails will be judged on a number of elements including taste, creativity, appearance, and ease of service,” Sarah tells us.
Cool prizes, dude
The prizes are pretty cool, too. The winner gets a vacation in Florida including flights to Miami and accommodation at the Marriott; second prize is a Marriott Premium staycation and third ain’t to be sniffed at, neither – complimentary beachside dinner at the Marriott. It’s all going to be a big ol’ party, Sarah says.
“Anyone can be a VIP sampling guest by purchasing a ticket for $10, which includes a sample of 24 total cocktails made by the twelve bartenders – a pretty sweet deal.
“Tickets can be purchased in Balboa’s Lounge bar, located in the Marriott lobby. The event is not limited to the 50 guests who purchased a ticket – everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy the fun,” she says. There’s also a heap of music from DJ XS to look forward to. Can’t be many better ways to cool out on a Monday, can there? USA gegs in
Talking of the Marriott, Canada’s little brother the United States of America is celebrating its Independence Day on Wednesday, 4 July and the resort – like many others – is putting on a special lunch at Sol Bar. The unlimited BBQ costs $25, runs from midday to 3pm and includes a load of cool stuff from short ribs to Caribbean potato salad and loads more.
