Greenies upset By Rite’s march to championship glory

Division 1 headed for a fascinating finish as Greenies 1 scored a major victory over By Rite on 1 July at the Smith Road Oval.

By Rite were leaders throughout the season but after that win Greenies only needed to beat Prison in Sunday’s game to pip By Rite to the title.

Against By Rite, winning the toss and batting first, Greenies 1 totalled 182 with contributions from captain Chris Palmer 41, Sacha de Alwis 36 and a late order push from Alessandro Morris 26n.o and Ryan Easinhammer 24.

By Rite were bowled out for 113 with only Deno McInnis 41 and Troy Taylor 22 offering any resistance. Ryan Bovell was the pick of the Greenies bowlers with four wickets.

By Rite completed their matches against Greenies 1 so waited with baited breath for the final match and must have hoped Police would arrest Greenies 1’s late bid.

Over at the Jimmy Powell Oval, centuries by Steve Gordon 107 not out and Dave Holness 105 pushed Prison to a massive 303 for four wickets which proved to be too much for Police. Prison won by 82 runs.

In Division 2 Greenies Too has the top of the table for themselves as they won by default against JJ’S. However Greenies Too had only one match to complete their schedule whereas on their heels were Aims Consultants, Paramount and Chillies.

In the women’s league Dr. Jackman Islanders scored a major victory by defeating 2011 champions Stingrays by 2 runs. Batting first Dr. Jackman Islanders scored 100 for 6 and limited Stingrays to 98 for 9 wickets.
