Jeffrey Webb is not the only Cayman Islands football chief celebrating a huge appointment. Canover Watson recently became the fourth vice-president of the Caribbean Football Union. It is a huge responsibility considering the malaise the CFA has been in recently.
But like Webb, new president of CONCACAF and a FIFA vice-president, Watson is extremely capable in improving the situation.
Businessman Watson is also the treasurer of the Cayman Islands Football Association. “I think my appointment to the CFU is an opportunity to contribute to some challenges ahead of us and some issues we have to work through,” Watson said.
“I trust that myself and all the CFU members elected are focused and committed to moving us forward and re-establishing Caribbean football as a powerhouse as it should be in the region.
“Jeff’s appointments are still a bit surreal. It is an amazing accomplishment. I think this is one of the biggest accomplishments that we in the Cayman Islands can point to of one of our people. It is a tremendous honour for Jeff and I’m proud and happy for him. I have every confidence that he will establish CONCACAF as one of the leading football federations in FIFA.”
