Clinics aim for more interest

Netball is looking to keep kids in Cayman active this summer.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association, through new technical director Gillian Lee, is putting on free camps intended for youngsters at the primary school level on Grand Cayman.

Lee spoke about the first session, which ran earlier this month in George Town at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts.

“We had our youngest group at the George Town camp,” Lee said. “We had over 90 kids attend, which was fantastic. All of the kids had fun, learnt lots about netball and enjoyed the week.

“There will be more camps in West Bay and East End. Check out for all the details and please register before attending.”

The week-long camps, aimed at grades 3-6, are being done over three weeks. John A Cumber Primary School in West Bay is slated to host the next session on 23-27 July. East End Primary will be the final venue on 30 July-3 August. Each camp runs from 9am to 12noon.

Lee is putting on additional free clinics for teenagers and adults. Youngsters aged 11-14 can come out every Thursday evening with senior sessions, for those aged 21 and over, scheduled for Wednesday nights in July and August. Truman Bodden serves as the venue for those clinics from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Participants are advised to bring plenty of drinking water.
